Default An Epic Quest for Pre-Searing

I know people hate the thought on ArenaNet doing anything for those who hang around in Pre-Searing, but for the people who do this would be very beneficial.

Possible Quest Ideas:
  • Exclusive 'named' mobs that spawn after killing a preset number of a spacific mob.
  • Rare random quest items droped by spacific mobs that are given to an NPC after collecting the entire set.
  • Take Gwen on an adventure that takes you all over the place doing alot of diferent things, but only if you have gotten the elusive Tapesty Shred.

Possible reward Ideas:
  • An exclusive merchant who sells things like a 5 use Expert Salvage Kit or a Storage Bag (but not Runes of Holding).
  • An exclusive crafter who can craft armor or weapons that are beter (not top) than the common items availible from collectors, crafters & merchants.
  • An exclusice collector who can give you armor or weapons that are beter (not top) than the common items availible from collectors, crafters & merchants.
  • A container that can include a special item like a 5 use Expert Salvage Kit or a Storage Bags (but not Runes of Holding).

This is a chance for ArenaNet to play with the epic quest concept that most RPGs have that is one of the only elements missing from GuildWars. If the concept is well recived by the players, you can bet that they will start making extreamly elaberate epic quests for the Post-Searing areas. Maybee even Cross-Contanent (chapters) will be in our future as well. This is the small seed that can start something huge!! After all GuildWars is one of th ONLY RPGs that focuses on a gamer's skill and not the repeditive farming and level grinding that other games have just to try to maitain a competitive level. This would be a huge reward for actual role players. Start with a small epic quest for Pre-Searing and see what happens when the concept reaches the Post-Searing areas!! Emagine the possibilities!!

well... On the surface it seems like a ok idea. for new players. but Presearing is suppose to be a tutorial after all... Not really a main start of the game at all... I mean tons of players come out of presearing with no clue about the rest of the game, and suddenly discover the world is VAST and has penalties on deaths. OMG PENALTIES!!!! You mean I can't always keep dieing anymore??? WAHHH. lol ok a little sarcasm there... lol

but my point is Pre-Searing areas are not a place to really enjoy the game... Sure its nice looking and geewis who wouldn't like to just wonder around aimlessly with barely nothing attacking you unless you attack it first... But seriously. the rest of the game is hugely more impressive...

The game does not Really begin until you ascend and that currently is about 1/2 way through the game. In the next campaign it will be more like 1/4 way through the game. basically you go through a presearing like training mission for new Chapter 2 characters of that campaign, and come out, do like 3 missions, and then ascend... Whop dee doo. So much for Tutorial. I think that's what Anet discovered in Chapter 1. Cut to the chase and get straight to the story...

What about an alternative history thing?

Where say when you reach lv 10 and beyond in pre-sear, you are given the option to take a quest to stop the Searing. Once complete this hard quest, you stop the searing, but also mean that This Character WIll Never Get Out of Pre-Sear! However, it will also unlock further quest that have harder and higher level enemies, as well as unlock more skills for use in pre-sear.

That.. or go with the "Back-to-the-past-with-dreaming-spirit" thing for lv 20 to go back to pre-sear for quests.... (see an old post about that...)

The reason I created this post was to focus on making an epic quest that is relatively limited in its scope. Just so ArenaNet can see for itself if devoting the time to the development of much more impresive quests would be worth pursuing. I could be wrong. I could be the only one who thinks that this game could have so much more to offer. Even ArenaNet themselves admited that they never expected people to be that interested in PvE long term. They thought that the "End Game" would be exclusivly PvP/GvG. This is a chace for people to let them know that we would embrace content that would reward the PvE players who want their "End Game" to be spend in PvE.

I love the thought of stoping the searing. That would be awesome!!

there is the whole 2 year gap thing.... Its a potential optional expansion... The actual Searing!!!! Like a flash back thing or something like that. for already ascended characters... But time-line wise consistent if starting from the beginning again... there is tons of potential for interesting things to come... all we can do is wait and see what they have in mind...But little suggestion like this never hurts either...

The great thing about ArenaNet is that they listen to there players. If enough people want to see a new feature, they will eventually incorporate it into the game.

While relentlessly slaughtering Char last night, I was chatting with some freinds as I tend to do. One thing that was brought up was the rabit. What is it for? Why is the there? Does it taste like chiken? There have been alot of people who want a repeatible quest so they can continue to level without self sacrificing (borderline exploit). What would you think about making the Epic Quest repeatible? Of course I would reccomend having variable paths for diferent rewards if it is repeatible just to make things alot more interesting.

After you've done over the wall and return to that area for Charr farming, maybe Piken Square could become a outpost where this "exclusive content" could be placed.

Keep the quest with low level monsters (level 10 maximum) and it's fine with me. I like the Piken Square idea alot! Maybe add a quest that becomes availale at level 10 called "Save Piken Square". Then you'll be zoned to Piken Square (which from that point is a town). Then you'll have to stop the Charr from entering, and then you'll have a couple of more quests to do there when ready.

A quest called "New Powers" or something would also be nice, that gives you a Signet of Capture, and makes you have to kill the enemies at the altar (and also need a Ranger and a Warrior added) and completes the quest when a skill has been capped. I want hax0r skillz0rsz in Pre! :O

I don't think people should be encouraged to stay in pre-searing after level 8 or so (I'm looking at you, Maxiemonster!), and the present content is plenty for that.

I do not agree with people who want more skill trainers in pre. Giving any new skills would disrupt the balance. I tink that people who want to disrupt the balance should just give me all their gold and retire. Well at leased stop complaining. Things that would not disrupt Pre would be the ability to expert salvage some minor runes and maybe the ability to get a bag. Things that help you, but do not directly effect game balance. It would be nice to have something BIG to do before leaving pre. This was not intended to create a way to make supernaturally strong characters. There are two basic points: 1) a chance to test drive the epic contenet concept. 2) to give people a sence of completion before moving on.
